I realize my experience is likely an outlier, but things like this should never happen.
The staff are very friendly and helpful during the process of selecting frames and purchasing. However, my 36 day experience in actually obtaining the glasses I purchased was something of a nightmare.
The staff were extremely patient, professional and helpful. A group of doctors check on you, a medical intern and a senior doctor. In my experience, both of them were very meticulous about their work and checked my eyes with care. The medical trainee in my case (Dr Hurley) answered all my questions with care and recommended to take a further eye exam. I'd definitely recommend their services.
Very thorough - they run you through the whole gambit. There's always a full optometrist to double-check the students' work but I have yet to see anyone overruled. There's a very nice frames shop there as well so you don't need to take the prescription somewhere else. They even have machines to make sure the glasses fit perfectly. It really is a top-grade operation.
It took 36 days to make a pair of glasses. That is simply unacceptable. Not only that, I had to make all of the effort in actually finding out what was going on. Not once did they call me to notify me that there were going to be any delays. And clearly when you call them and check on the status, they pull a number out of a hat to tell you how long you have.
Two things need to change. First, get a better manufacturer. All sorts of places can deliver glasses in 7-10 days without issues. Second, be proactive and call your customers when issues come up. I shouldn't have to go investigate why I'm not being notified that my glasses are ready when you know that there was an issue in making them.
At the time of purchase (May 30), I was told it would take about 14 days for the glasses to be ready. A little longer than other places I've been, but that's fine. I call to check on the status of the order after 13 days (June 12), and I'm told they should be ready in the next day or so. Four days later (June 16), I call again, and am told the glasses didn't pass inspection, so they would likely be ready around the middle of the following week. I call again a week later (June 23), and am told that they are still not ready. Again, I get the line that they should be ready by the next business day, which was Monday. Now I'm screwed out of having these glasses for the two weeks of travel I was going on starting that Monday. Fast forward to July 5, and I finally get an email saying the glasses are ready to be picked up.
The student as well as the attending doctors are very thorough. I don't mind the 2 hour appointment because I know that if there is anything to be found, they will find it - everything from eyelash dandruff to a cataract. This is the only place I have been since I was a student at OSU back in the mid 1970's.
Had a little trouble getting to the clinic - exit off 315N was closed, and I had to find my way through the detour. Otherwise, appointment went well. Staff is always friendly, courteous and professional. I was well taken care of, and would highly recommend OSU Optometry clinic to anyone who needs contacts. I have to wear special scleral contacts, and OSU Optometry is the place to go for that type of contacts. I was going to a clinic in Westerville, and after a year of trial and error I decided to go to the VA. They referred me to the OSU Optometry clinic. Needless to say, it didn't take them long to get me fitted with contacts. And it certainly didn't take over a year of trial and error with fitting them.
