I emailed the company immediately so they could not attempt to claim that I took a picture of a different car or some other excuse. They didn’t respond for 10 days until my second email. They gave me a generic response trying to state the charges were correct. It wasn’t until I emailed them back stating that they were in violation of their contract which states that a per mileage fee is instituted in the instance where the gas tank was not fill by the customer and that the next level of discussions would occur in small claims court did they finally refund me approximately $20 for the difference.
Anyway, again, excellent experience.
Online it said we'd be paying around $180 for my whole trip. Going to pick it up. We were charged an EXTRA $425. They even had me put "half down" of $87 prior to the trip. I was heading to my mother's funeral, and there's a lot of extra costs I've been dealing with. But to end up paying THREE TIMES as much as you agreed on, and put "half down" on, is just scummy and horrible service. Stay away from this place.
I booked online through hotwire and as is the policy with hotwire they disclosed the rental agency only after I booked the car. When later I read through the reviews I was very much concerned. However the car pick up was fast. The lady at the counter was very nice. I was out with the car in about 10 mins. I had initially rented for a week but I needed to extend it by a day. I called them up and they extended the rental by a day. It took just 5 mins over the phone to extend it by a day. The return was hassle free and completed within 5 mins. No hidden charges, no unexpected charges. Overall, my experience with dollar was as good as with any other rental.
My flight was cancelled due to Hurricane Harvey. I was flying from Columbus OH to Houston Intercontinental. They charged me $100 dollars for only one more day of rental. When I called back to speak with another agent, since the first agent did not speak English, she tells me that I have to take it up with the local agency when dropping off the car and that they had charged me the exchange fee. I asked for that fee to be waived since it was a hurricane and I couldn't do anything about it. When she refused (Her name is Miranda) I asked for a supervisor. She put me on hold and Miranda said that the supervisor was busy helping another customer. I asked for the name of the supervisor and the answer I got was "I believe her name is Karen". then she proceeded to leave me on hold for about half an hour. Nobody ever came to the phone.
We rented around mid-July for a week. I was honestly really nervous after reading the reviews, but we had 0 problems. We got hit with no "hidden" fees. No one tried to push extras on us. We were offered an upgrade with my husband's military discount, too! So, a bigger vehicle for the same, if not lower, price, but we were tired and in a hurry as we had just landed. Anyway, we had the car for a week, and we had no issues. The price was around $215 I think for the whole week. It was a smooth transaction going in and leaving. I decided to post this because it is a fact that more often people leave poor reviews than good reviews.
I will never rent from any dollar or thrifty(partner company) again. I have the same work trip scheduled in the near future and have specifically asked the contractor to rent from another company stating I would take a lower quality car or pay the difference in price out of pocket.
Rented from this place for a work trip - they had one representative (but it was late on a Friday so I understand) which took awhile to get the vehicle. When I went to return the vehicle I was running late and therefore was unable to refill the gas tank. I knew there would be large markup for having the company refill the gas (9.99 per gallon, FYI, way more than the markup at most places) and I was willing to accept this. The attendant taking the car back noted that the gas tank was not full and I said that I understand and I will pay the fee for this. I get handed my ticket and begin to walk off when I realize that I was being charged 70 dollars. The gas tank was 3/4 of the way filled as my trip was short. I approached the attendant and tell him that it seems overcharged. Misreading the receipt I thought they were charging me for 18 gallons - the attendant tells me that the computer automatically calculates based on what fraction of the tank they enter. I said “so you’re telling me that you put in the tank as 3/4 of the way filled and it’s saying that the car requires 18 gallons to fill it?” He says “yes” I respond “so you’re telling me this 2016 impala holds 70 gallons?” He said “uh huh”. I ask him to show me in the computer where he input 3/4th of a tank retuned and he says the ticket is closed and there is nothing he can do. I was never asked to verify or sign anything prior to the ticket being “closed”. I asked for the supervisor who comes over and tells me that the tank is 18gal total and I’m being charged for 1/4th of it at 9.99 a gallon. I explain to him that the numbers don’t add up. I start to pull out my cellphone calculator to show him and he says “hold on, I need to help this other customer” and leaves in the middle of our conversation. Both employees knew I was running late and at this point I realize I’m not getting anywhere so I leave. Once I get on the plane I realize that they had charged me as if I returned 5/8ths if the way filled. Images attached show the charge along with the returned gas level. I realize this is slightly less than 3/4,but if they were going to round it should’ve been to the nearest hashmark.
I did notice that if you failed to turn the car into them at full, they charged like $10 per gallon or something outrageous! Places such as Hertz tell you they charge more than what gas is (but not more than a buck) so that is something to look out for. We almost turned it in just barely under full when we saw that. We turned around real quick and found a gas station, LOL!
